Getting to Know: Cameron Myer

Cameron Meyer is one of Australia’s brightest young cycling prospects. Just 20 years of age, Cameron can boast 2006 Junior World Champion status for the Madison, individual pursuit and the team’s pursuit in Belgium. The same year he won awards for Australian Junior Track Cyclist of the year and Australian Junior Road Cyclist of the year. Since then he has represented Australia at the track World Cup in LA and the Track World Championships in Spain. In 2008 he has won the points race and the team pursuit at the Oceania Championships in NZ, the points race at the Track World Cup USA and finished first overall at the Tour of Japan. Cameron lives at Helena Valley in Western Australia and his aims include being picked up by one of the pro teams and representing Australia at the Olympic Games. We caught up with Cameron where he was hard at work training in Italy with the AIS squad.

The Zen of Bike Cleaning Part 2

Following on from part one of "The Zen of Bike Cleaning"....

The Zen of Bike Cleaning

A clean bike will not only look good; regular cleaning will also prolong the life of your drive chain and help you pick up any faults before they become a safety risk.

Footloose

Steve Hogg drives a wedge into cleat positioning and reveals how a simple adjustment can dramatically improve your pedalling efficiency.

We Might as Well Win

We Might As Well Win explains in great detail the strategies used to guide Lance Armstrong to his seven Tour de France victories, including his 1995 yellow jersey, and his years as director of the U.S. Postal and Discovery teams, After what seems a lifetime of seeing Johan on TV, I was prepared for a stern, no nonsense guy with that famous Belgian accent. To be honest, I was more than a little nervous. It’s not every day you speak with one of the most powerful people in cycling.

Riding in the Splitstream

Sometimes, you can simply be lucky. I’d emailed Matt White to ask him a few questions. Since he retired from professional road racing, Matt has been a director of the Garmin Chipotle team, formally known as Slipstream. Matt lives in Gerona, so we were talking about Spain when he casually mentioned that some of the Slipstream riders would be in a training camp in the Pyrenees and would I like to visit? Would I? Do you have to ask?! “Well, it would probably be OK he said. “You’ll have to go through the head office first, but I’ll tell them to expect you.

Teen Challenge Breaking Cycle

“I believe if I hadn’t come here I’d
probably be dead…”

Climbing towards the greatest race on earth

“This kid could win the Tour de France one day.” The voice of cycling, Phil Liggett, had just witnessed quite possibly the first step in an Australian’s quest to win the greatest race on earth.

Better Safe than Sticky

Riding to work is enjoyable and gives you extra training. Greg Johnson discusses ways to keep you safe during rush hour.

Dare To Make The Tour Dream

It’s every cyclist’s dream to ride the Tour de France and mine was no different. After winning the Australian Time Trial champs in Ballarat at the start of the year, I said to the team that riding the Tour is something that I really wanted. I think they sort of took it with a grain of salt and if I’m honest with myself, I kinda felt that way too. But it wasn’t going to stop me from trying hard and proving that I was good enough to go.
